After forming Adam from the dust, God “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life” (Hebrew: nishmat chayyim), and Adam became a “living soul” or “living being.”

This divine act imparts life and sets Man apart from other creatures, highlighting the intimate involvement of God in giving Adam vitality and consciousness.
